Eskom is inviting bids for a line maintenance contract focused on the installation and upkeep of bird guards and bird diverters on its Southern Grid. This contract will be executed on an as-and-when-required basis over a period of 36 months. The bird guards and diverters are critical for protecting both the power lines and avian wildlife, reducing incidents of birds coming into contact with the electrical infrastructure.
Scope of Work
The scope of this project includes:
- Supply and Installation:
- Bird Guards: These devices prevent birds from perching or nesting on electrical structures, reducing the risk of bird-related faults.
- Bird Diverters: These are designed to make power lines more visible to birds, thereby preventing collisions.
- Installation will take place across various locations within the Southern Grid, which spans a significant area of Eskom’s infrastructure in the Free State.
- Maintenance:
- Regular inspection and maintenance of installed bird guards and diverters to ensure they remain effective throughout the contract period.
- Replacement of any damaged or worn-out equipment as necessary.
- Emergency Response:
- The contractor must be able to respond promptly to any emergency maintenance requests, ensuring minimal disruption to Eskom’s services.
- Reporting and Documentation:
- Detailed reports on installations, maintenance activities, and any incidents must be provided regularly to Eskom.
- Documentation should include photographic evidence of installations and maintenance, as well as any challenges encountered and solutions applied.
